Diagonal Jog

Although this technique of controlling one or more cards wasn't recorded in published literature until the twentieth century, it was known and used at least as early as the late 1600s, as attested to in an unpublished, anonymous book on conjuring cataloged as “MSS III, 18” in the Biblioteca di Asti, Italy, dated c. 1670-1730. An English translation of much of this work was made by Lori Pieper in the Winter 2013 issue of Gibecière (Vol. 8 No. 1). On page 103 of that translation is a description and clear illustration of the diagonal jog. Several applications for it are also given in this work.
