This was invented by William E. Dayton, Jr. in the late 1940s. It was to appear in the Tarbell Course in Magic, Vol. 6, 1954, but was dropped. It was finally published as “New-Way Rising Card” in M-U-M, Vol. 77 No. 11, Apr. 1988, p. 22, with its history.
